5-Fluorouracil 5% Cream is Effective in Treating Perianal Condylomata Accuminata

Condylomata accuminata is a sexually transmitted disease characterized by anogenital wartscaused by human papillomavirus (HPV) – types 6 and 11. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) 5% cream intreating perianal condylomata accuminata. 

 

The article reports a case of a 24-year-old male who presented with anal warts that had beenmultiplying over the past 3 weeks. The acetowhite test confirmed the diagnosis ofperianal condylomata accuminata. 

 

The patient underwent treatment with 5-FU 5% cream, applying it to the lesions 3 times aweek for 5 weeks. This therapy resolved the symptoms and prevented the recurrence of thewarts. 

 

5-FU 5% cream is a cost-effective, easily applicable and effective treatment option forperianal warts. Its mechanism of action involves disrupting the synthesis and function ofDNA and RNA. The application of 5-FU 5% cream 3 times a week for 5 weeks yieldedpositive results without any reported side effects. Self-application of 5-FU 5% cream provedto be an effective treatment modality for perianal condylomata accuminata. 

 

The case study demonstrated successful outcomes with no adverse effects such as pain,erythema, discoloration, erosion, ulceration, burning, itching or swelling. Therefore, 5-FU5% cream is a safe, easy-to-use, and effective treatment option for reducingperianal condylomata accuminata lesions.
